What is periodontal disease?
Periodontal disease ranging from gingivitis to periodontitis, is the infection of periodontal organs which include gum,bone,surrounding soft tissue and periodontal ligament. Its main causation is dental plaque which is community of bacteria adhere to tooth surface around gum margin which trigger inflammation. Other predisposing factors are systemic disease, such as Diabetes. Some medications can affect gum swelling such as anticonvulsant, birth-control pills.
Symptoms of Periodontal Disease:
- Gum swelling and redness
- Bleeding when brushing
- Supporation from periodontal pocket
- Gum recession
- Tooth mobility
